I received a few emails regarding BMW parts and their estimated prices. Before that,
my apologies to those who have emailed questions over the recent weeks which I have not
been able to respond. I somewhat messed up the mailbox but it's since been sorted out.
Going back to the question on source for BMW parts and their prices, I find websites by online
suppliers to be the best place to do my background research - certainly those specializing
in BMW parts such as Bavarian Autosport. They have a very well organized online catalog.
Here's the link: http://www.bavauto.com
If you need to determine the specific car parts and their part numbers for your BMW and do
not have a copy of the BMW ETK, check out the following site:

Naturally, there's only so much you can gather from websites. But they have been a good
source of information for me on the
different makes
available, upgraded parts available and prices for benchmark/reference purposes. With such
information on hand, I then check with fellow (local) BMW enthusiasts on the best place to
get them, if not from the online stores. I've managed to get some really good deals shopping
online. But mostly I get my parts through my regular workshops to avoid unnecessary hassles
should the parts not fit or work properly!

The ICE bug has bit this time so I anticipate upcoming work on the car centered on
improving the sound system. I'm pretty happy with the upgrade carried out so far,
i.e. Nakamichi head unit and changer, CDT components and xtant amplifier. Further
adjustments to the tweeters firing angle (installed in stock location) and addition
of rear-fill speakers (also CDT) has brought up the height and increased the width
of the soundstage. There's an impression of more space/air around the singers.
However, imaging is still poor. It definitely won't make the grade for serious car
audio fans particularly with rear-fill speakers in the setup. Nevertheless, the
system has that sweet tonal quality to voices which I like since I listen to a lot
of female vocals. I attribute this to the combination of CDT Audio HD speakers and
the xtant 3300c amplifier. Next in the chain due for upgrade is the tired Profile sub.
I've narrowed down my subwoofer choices to either the Adire Shiva or Image Dynamics IDQ
- 12" most definitely. Yet I still can't help wondering what an IDMax
would sound like in the system.
