The Great BMW Easter Egg
In March 2004, there was great
excitement among BMW enthusiasts about
the first automotive Easter Egg ever.
This Easter Egg violently launches the
BMW M3 from a stop position after being
revved up to 5,000 RPM.
Although most of us would never afford
the BMW M3 in our lifetimes, it does not
stop us from getting all excited about
this supposedly first automotive Easter
Egg ever. Again, I wish I has one but
anyway...
How it is done...
1. Switch off the stability system
2. Select shift program six
3. Switch the engine to sport mode
4. Put the hand shifter in drive and
hold it down
5. Press the gas pedal.
6. The engine will rev up to 5,000 RPM
7. Close your eyes, say your prayers and
get ready for the launch of your life
8. Let go of the hand shifter
The Results
The M3 will perform the neutral drop of your lifetime.
It will launch forward violently
- REALLY VIOLENTLY!
Apparently, the M3s will only rev up to
2,500 RPM instead of the 5,000 RPM if
the M3 is installed with the American
version of the firmware. The reason? In
Europe, performing this procedure more
than 15 times will void the M3's
warranty. However, in the United States,
federal laws prohibit such stipulations.
As such, BMW had to program the American
version of the firmware to only rev up
to 2,500 RPM. I guess you cannot really
blame them, can you?
