iPod and Your BMW

In June 2004, Apple and BMW announced the launch of the BMW iPod Adapter that allowed seamless integration between Apple's iPod and BMW's audio system. This adapter is available for the 3 Series, Z4 Roadster, X3, X5 and the MINI Cooper.

This innovation allows users to integrate the iPod with their BMW's audio system by plugging the iPod into a cable located in the glove compartment. Once plugged in, drivers can control the music (iPod) through BMW's audio system and multifunction steering wheel. Drivers can access the entire music library, adjust volume, shuffle songs and skip between tracks. Power will not be an issue during long drives as the iPod will be powered by the car's battery.

The iPod Adapter will be available at a price of $149 (plus installation cost) at BMW and MINI centers. Installation can only be performed by authorized BMW and MINI centers.

"One of the next frontiers for a seamless digital music experience is the car... We all spend a lot of time driving, and now this elegant solution lets iPod users enjoy their entire music collection in their BMW or MINI." - Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO.

"With Apple, we're bringing the ultimate digital music experience to our customers... The BMW iPod Adapter provides our drivers with virtually endless miles of music without their hands ever leaving the steering wheel." - Tom Purves, Chairman and CEO, BMW of North America.
